17. “Nami no Ue beach” that you can walk from Kokusai Street

“Gusuku” is a dialect of Okinawa and refers to a castle.

Nakijin Castle has a long history and dates back to the 13th century.
Surrounded by a solid wall like the Great Wall, this gusuku was the main castle protecting northern Okinawa.

Now it is also known as a superb view point overlooking the sea and the city walls.
The view from the castle ruins of Uchihara is a must-see.
The deep blue sea that stretches over the rugged “Isami-no-mi” stone wall is refreshing, and on a clear day you can overlook Yoron Island.

“Yachimun” means “baked goods” in the Okinawa dialect.
If you go in the direction of “Kokusai Street”, you ca n’t remove the “Tsuboya Yachimun Street”, which is said to be the hometown of Okinawa Yachimun.

On the street of about 390m long, followed by Ryukyu limestone cobblestones, there are a number of shops and antique shops, including a pottery of “Ashiya Yaki”, which boasts a history of more than 300 years.
You can enjoy shopping while taking a walk.

A variety of Tsuboya wares are available, ranging from stylish mugs perfect for everyday use to Shisa you want to decorate at the entrance.
