What is Byodoin
Byodo-in was founded in 1052.
At the time when Byodo-in was founded, Japanese law was popular.

For this reason, Byodo-in Temple is highly regarded as a valuable resource that conveys the Pure Land Thought of the Heian period.
In 1994, it was designated as one of the components of the UNESCO World Heritage “Cultural Property of Ancient Kyoto”.
Tsujido
If you say Byodo-in, you can’t miss the temple.
Byodo-in Temple is Amida-do, built in 1053, the year after the founding of Byodo-in Temple.
It seems that it was around the Edo period that it was called “Tsujido”.
Since the building is built on Nakajima, the pond appears to float on the water.

This sculpture has come to be called “Tsujido”.
Tsujido, Amida Nyorai sitting statue, samurai, canopy and mural are designated as national treasures.
Kannon-do
The place where Kannon-do is currently located is said to be the place where the main hall was located when Byodo-in was built.
It was rebuilt at the main temple site in the first half of the Kamakura period.
The inside is private. It is designated as an important cultural property.
Inside, there was an enshrined statue of Honson eleven-faced Kannon standing in the late Heian period.
This statue is currently in the Byodoin Museum Hoshokan.
garden
In 1922, it was designated as a national historic site and scenic spot.
The garden that represents the world of the Pure Land in this world is called the Pure Land Garden.
In the morning, when you open the door of the temple in the center, the morning sun reflects in the water of the pond.
It seems that the center Amida Nyorai shone beautifully and shone when it hits the circular mirror on the ceiling.
It must have looked like a divine figure of Buddha visiting Jodo from the pure soil.
An excavation conducted since 1990 found a state beach during the Heian period.
Therefore, it is now restored to its original form.

Jade bell

However, there is what is said to be the three bells in the world.
Byodo-in Temple is famous for its beauty.

Sculptures such as kites, flying stars, lions and arabesques are engraved.
The beautiful figure is not only designated as a national treasure, but also used in the design of Japanese stamps.
South gate
The south gate is the same as the front gate.
Before it was renovated, it was pale vermilion.
Now it has been restored to the bright vermilion color at the time of its founding.
Since it is built right next to the white wall, the vermilion south gate is more visible.
In autumn, the autumn leaves planted in the back of the South Gate turn red.
