Recently, tourists from overseas are rapidly increasing.
It is also registered as a World Heritage Site.
It represents a beautiful Japanese structure. I tried to put together the highlights of such Kinkakuji.

What kind of temple is Kinkakuji

It is famous for “Shali-den” which often appears in tourist photographs of Kyoto.
It is called Kinkakuji because it shines in luxurious gold.
Kinkakuji is located in Kita Ward, Kyoto City. It is a historical temple boasting about 40,000 tsubo.

The approach to the main gate of Kinkakuji is wide and trees are overgrown.
There is a sense of silence in the temple.
You can see the famous tree “Ichi-oak” in one corner of the approach.
There is a gate in front of this approach. The gate that is the front gate of Kinkakuji is decorated with a crest from the Emperor.
If you look at this crest, you can see the height of Kinkakuji.
According to the sparkling Kinkakuji Temple, the main gate is a bit quiet.
However, the main gate of Kinkakuji is a solid and majestic building. Only the atmosphere is not lost.

Bell tower

When you get in through the main gate of Kinkakuji, there is a bell tower on the left side.
The current Belfry building was rebuilt in 1955.
The hanging bell was cast during the Kamakura period.
Even now, a historical tone is ringing as a bell of Kinkakuji.
At Kinkakuji, paying 200 yen on Saturdays and Sundays, you can ring a bell.

Funakataishi

Near the gate there is a stone in the shape of a rose.
It is Funakataishi. It has a form reminiscent of a treasure ship known as the Seven Lucky Gods (God of Happiness).
It is said that auspicious stones from old times.

Shali-den

Shali-den is a symbol of Kinkaku-ji Temple that glows golden. It is a famous building that everyone knows.
The current building started in 1952 and was rebuilt in 1955.
Shali-den is about 12.5 meters high, about 10 meters high and about 7.5 meters high. The architecture is different from the first floor to the third floor.
And gold leaf is put on the lacquer painted on the building.

Kyokochi and the garden

The pond representing Kinkakuji is Kyokochi.
Kyokochi is the center of the pond fountain swing garden of Kinkakuji.
Furthermore, there are islands in the pond which are well-balanced.
Above all, the islands called “Kameshima” and “Tsurushima” are meaningful and show “3 turtles” and “1 crane”. The pond, the island and the gardens are beautifully organized.
